Editorial Reviews:

Thavro Phim came of age under the Pol Pot regime and lost his father, brother, and grandfather to the Khmer Rouge. What kept him whole after the ordeal was his Buddhist faith and dedication to Cambodian classical dance. We follow Thavro from California back to Cambodia for a bittersweet reunion with his family and teachers. The film takes us back to the late 1970s, when 90 percent of Cambodian dancers were executed or died of starvation or disease.

Summary: Dancing Through Death
Comment: This is an excellent video about Khmer dance, its history, techniques and contemporary practices. It focuses on the Monkey Dance and also heavily centres on survivors of the KHmer Ruge regime telling their history. it is very useful for anyone doing a study of Khmer dance, especially as Shapiro's book on Khmer dance is virtually unobtainable.
