Editorial Reviews:

Located in the southwest of China, Guangxi has rich natural resources. Its water resources and marine resources rank the first among all the provinces in southern China. The progress of border trade and the foreign investment give an impetus to the economic development of Guangxi. Furthermore, the brilliant local Zhuang ethnic-group culture and the picturesque landscape of Guilin appeal deeply to the tourists.Inner Mongolia covers the northeast, north and the northwest of China, spanning 2,000 kilometers. The area abounds in resources, such as forests in its east, iron in the west, grain in the south, prairies in the north and coal everywhere. The geographic advantage of bordering on Russia and Mongolia lends wings to Inner Mongolia for

its future development. An ancient poem depicts the beautiful scenery here: "When the winds blow and grass bends low, the sheep and cattle will emerge." The boundless prairies have helped breed the nomadic culture, are still nourishing the nomads and will do so in the generations to come.

Summary: Go west young man...
Comment: When I got this DVD I didn't really know what I was getting. The DVD has four short programs. Two on the Guangxi Zhunang Autonomous Region and two on the Inner Monogolia Autonomous. The first program of each is focused on business and the material wealth of each region. And second program of each focuses on the tourism and the culture of each the region. At first it felt like they were trying to get the viewer to invest in the area or to come live there. And maybe they are. Made for Chinese television it may have been designed to draw more Chinese to those areas. The frontiers of China, the western regions, are not looked at as places of adventure and riches, like Americans used to think of the Wild West, but as wild uncivilized wastelands, with hostile minorities, and hold no real attraction to the city bred folks.
So the DVDs are interesting, in they tell you about those regions, but also are interesting in they may be devices used to try to get more Han Chinese to move to those areas.
