Summary: Sanger on North Korea
Comment: David Sanger told Charlie Rose that the Bush Administration's recent agreement with North Korea could have and should have been made seven years ago. Sanger says North Korea is giving up the capacity to enrich more plutonium but that it may have as many as ten nuclear - weapons stored and ready to go. Sanger says North Korea which is a backward, bankrupt, totalitarian regime is subject to incentives in a way the oil- rich Iran is not. Sanger talks about North Korea and Syria, and the recent Israeli strike against a nuclear facility in Syria. When Charlie Rose asks him what those - in- the - know say about Iran attaining nuclear capability he seems to suggest that it is not going to be stopped- at least by the U.S. While this is a richly informative program which speaks clearly about what North Korea has and does not have, I would have appreciated it going into greater depth on the North Korea- Iranian connection. Has North Korea supplied the warheads for an Iranian nuclear weapon? Are there North Korean technicians in Iran now? What exactly is the relationship between the two regimes?
